Knoxville, TN A Top 25 Solar America City
Friday February 20, 2009
Knoxville, designated one of the 25 major US cities in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar America Cities, is working to accelerate the adoption of solar energy technologies for a cleaner, more secure energy future. The Solar America Cities program has engaged over 180 organizations, including municipal, county, and state agencies, solar companies, universities, utilities, and non-profit organizations. These partners have made a commitment to power their cities with clean, safe, reliable energy -- solar energy.
The City of Knoxville is working to substantially increase the utilization of solar power through the "Knoxville Solar Cities" program. The initiative will build a sustainable solar infrastructure through a comprehensive, city-wide approach that facilitates mainstream adoption of solar power.
The Knoxville Solar Cities program builds on the city's Energy & Sustainability Initiative, a set of existing partnerships between the city and local institutions aimed at reducing energy consumption and enhancing Knoxville's overall sustainability.
