Lincoln Memorial University ranked safest college campus

The National Council for Home Safety and Security, a security trade association, ranked Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate the safest college campus in America for 2019.

The association releases school safety rankings each year, based on locally submitted police reports, FBI crime data on more than 490 colleges.

The association's website praised Lincoln Memorial University for several safety measures the campus has implemented: patrols, door locks, after-hours escort services, camera monitoring, emergency and non-emergency dispatch, anonymous tip lines, annual security reports and sex offender registry searches.

South Georgia State College ranked second. North Carolina's Elon University came in third, Jackson State Community College in Jackson ranked fourth and John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois, ranked fifth.

Pellissippi State Community College ranked 154th and the University of Tennessee ranked 279th.

While the organization only ranked schools with more than 1,000 students enrolled, it is unclear whether the organization calculated crime per capita in the student population.

Lincoln Memorial University and the rest of the top five schools listed all have under 7,000 students enrolled, while the bottom five schools have between 27,000 and 67,000 students enrolled.
